I have a chance to pick one of these up (6-81154) and the Lionel website says: "Min Curve: O-42 / O-54 Recommended"
However, the catalog states O54 only.
I'm running 048 curves on my biggest loop so I'm wondering if I'm going to be ok.

Check this out.
Thank you ES44AC, looks like I will take a pass on this and invest into something that will negotiate my curves without having to worry.
I have five of these engines and I run them Atlas O-45 with no problems at all.
Thank you MDUPPY, I also found another thread here on the OGR forums where someone had them running fine on O48 the problem was the first car behind it had to be a heavier car with a newer type coupler.
I may change my mind on this and go pick it up.
Just saying MTH makes a very nice model of the ES44AC in UP paint. Plus they have the headlight in the correct location AND negotiate your curves no problem. My Premier GEVO even makes my O-36 curves!
Just for the record, these locomotives look, run, and make more sence on 072 and greater curves. 063 would be the minimum I would feel comfortable using. This would take the pressure off the next car to the engine....Just for thought.

Cool. I'm happy that post was useful to someone.

Not all of us are blessed with the space to fit 063 or wider curves. The locomotive runs great on 048; I do not imagine that it would run any better on broader curves.
Hi Friends in trains, I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings with my comment regarding the ES44's on 048 or so curves. I completely understand that not everyone has room for large curves and possibly not even room for a permanent layout. If any of you are ever in Tennessee, come see me, You are Welcome..This is the best hobby ever and I Love Trains of all sizes...Happy Railroading...
