I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I recently purchased a Lionel Legacy Gantry Crane 6-82097 and set it up just tonight on the gargraves special gantry crane track.  I have the Lionel 990 Legacy System and I programed the accessory as "accessory #1."  All of the functions work properly except for one:  the hook does not raise up or down using the boost scroll.  The only way to get the hook to move up or down is to use the big "speed" knob at the bottom of the Legacy Controller which will in fact rotate the crane around and raises the hook with it.  (I cannot rotate the crane around without the hook coming up or going down).  If the crane is stationary the hook does not move up or down.  When I press the boost scroll up or down (which is supposed to raise it) I can hear the internal motor operating, but the hook does not move up or down.  The only thing I can think of is that when I am using the accessory it is in Cab-1 mode (It says this at the top where normally if I were operating an engine it would have the engine name loaded).  I have never had any problems programming or using any of my legacy engines and this is my first Legacy accessory.  Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you.

Hi AJ— I cannot remember specifically how I programmed my crane, but I think I used “engine number” instead of “accessory number”. I know the manual states if using a Legacy Cab-2 that you can use either. But you might just try the “engine number” just for kicks.

You mentioned hearing a motor operating when commanding the crane hook up / down, but no hook movement. You might need to carefully look underneath the crane and see if there are any gears/ axles that are not fully engaged to other gears/ axles for the hook. On mine, the main gear was not fully engaged underneath for the cab rotation, and I needed to pull / snap the plastic main plate back into the holder so it was the same on both sides; it was only off alignment by 1/8 inch, but the gears were not meshing after close examination with a strong light.
