It has been discussed here that it is not a good idea to operate smoking cabooses in a command environment because of the constant 18 volts.Have there been any problems with the newer heritage matching smoking cabooses?Obviously Lionel would expect them to be operated in a command situation. Thanks,Nick

Nick,

I believe it was the K-Line cabooses that were subject to melt downs while being operated in a command control environment, in fact I had one do that during a open house at the BDSME in Bethlehem Pa a few years back.

The Lionel Heritage cabooses were produced with proper wiring to operate in CC. You may want to avoid running Lionel cabooses from the 1990s with smoke in CC but I have not heard of any incidents of recent Lionel smoking caboose melt down.

However after my K-Line melt down I keep all my caboose smoke units in the OFF position.
