I have a brand new Lionel Legacy New York Central Alco AA set which has an intermittent short somewhere in the front truck. Causes the headlight and number boards to flicker once in awhile and occasionally they'll be Sparks and the engine will stop. Because the service department at Lionel will be closed for at least another month I was hoping I might be able to take care of this myself. I twisted off the front truck to see if I could find the cause and one of the little plugs came loose. I believe this plug operates the front Electro coupler. I will attach a picture. I have no idea if this was loose and the cause of the short or not but now I'm finding it impossible to get it back on. What happens is after quite a while and with great difficulty if I get the plug pluged back in it gets disconnected again when I go to twist the truck back on. I have managed to do this three times already. It just seems that the wire connected to the plug which goes into the body of the unit is just not long enough and whenever you twist the truck all the way to the left to reattach it the wire pulls out. Any ideas on how to get this thing plugged back in?

First put the universal coupling on the shaft in the truck.
Second retain the white plug with the wires outside the frame.
Third assemble truck to frame, check that the coupling is engaged.
Forth with the truck slightly turned, insert plug with a tewssers.
The plug is for power.
Paul thanks for the advice. Seems like a good method, but I am still not able to get the plug in...again if the wire were just a quarter of an inch longer it would be no problem. Probably someone a little more skilled than myself could get it done. I don’t think it’s the cause of the short anyway because I was able to put electrical tape over the loose plug and I still got some flickering of the headlight and number board lights. But thank you much for your help.

Extend the wires. Solder, wire & Shrink tube. Par for the course. We are the final QC inspection nowadays.
Bryant...sad but true!
Just wondering if the slack is taken up inside the shell with tie wraps...
Good question...never took a shell off before. Anyone feel like walking me through it?!

Suggest do an advanced search. So much there, it will do itself. I agree with Chuck. You can probably find slack inside. Good time to add smoke fluid with no obstructions. Not too much because the engine will be turned upside down.
I’m excited for you. Waiting for my NYCs this week.
Bryant...the NYCs are beautiful! Perfect paint scheme this time and an excellent horn as well. Hope yours are problem-free!

I think you need to look again! This is not like the three our four pin connectors. That carry power and coupler. Look at the wires connected directly to the ground lug and power lug. That’s connection has to be for the coupler. At least imho
