Just got my run 270 and saw that Lionel will make its protocol open to WiFi.  Now that the gaunlet has been thrown down, wonder if Mr Wolf will respond in kind or if its "over my dead body".  I know Hinkel has been licensed but only because he was able to break the code.

Likewise I suspect but no proof that I bet DCS and DCC commands are very alike since PS3 runs either type, just formatting or bit positions in bytes etc seperate the two systems, but could be wrong.

Sam,

Now that the gaunlet has been thrown down, wonder if Mr Wolf will respond in kind or if its "over my dead body".

What "gauntlet"?

MTH has been working in this regard as long as has been Lionel. Further, Hikel O Gauge has  been offering PC and iPad/iPhone/iPod control of MTH trains for a couple of years.

I know Hinkel has been licensed but only because he was able to break the code.

First, it's not "Hinkel", rather, it's "Hikel O Gauge".

Second, MTH licensed Hikel O Gauge most likely because they have been a trusted business partner for quite some time. Their ScaleTrax layout packages have been in the past several years' of MTH catalogs. They have also been participated in MTH's York seminars from the beginning, as have I.

Likewise I suspect but no proof that I bet DCS and DCC commands are very alike since PS3 runs either type, just formatting or bit positions in bytes etc seperate the two systems, but could be wrong.

They couldn't be more different.

The transmission protocols are like night and day. DCS uses data packets while DCC uses, I believe, some method of data "pulsing".

MTH has two separate signal generators in each PS3 engine, one for DCS and another for DCC.
