I find it weird how often Lionel puts F7s in their catalogs over the years and they haven’t made one in the Southern paint scheme. I would totally buy a Legacy Southern F7 and/or a Legacy Southern E8. What do you think the chances are that Lionel will make either one of these?

I think Lionel will do either of them but the question is when?  I thought the perfect time for the E8s was when they did the 21” passenger cars for Southern but Lionel did the Legacy Southern Alco PAs instead.

I love E-8's.  Maybe it was not a good idea to Lionel as they might have had second thoughts about the extra cost of getting them right with roof mounted air tanks.

Yea I also don’t see Lionel making a lot of Southern Railway locomotives. I heard from someone that it’s because the demand for Southern Railway locomotives isn’t high compared to like Pennsylvania and Union Pacific Railroads

Indeed they might!  Not long after Mike R. moved down here he was at the local toy train shop across from the NCTM.  We botched the idea of high-nose GP30's just like what was running across the street.

About a year. year and a haft later I had theses.  ONLY the Southern and N&W had them.

And these two (2601 & 522) were/are running across the street.

ASK and you just may receive.

Nobody makes it because it doesn't sell.  How many times have we heard that line?  While we talk about the N&Ws legacy as being one of the last steam hold outs I suspect the popularity of N&W today is due in part to Lionel's decision to produce a rough version of the J in the 1950s.

Southern E's and F's would be great.

Lionel should also have done Southern 18" aluminum cars without black roofs in the same bright finish as the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific cars. (Not the dull silver paint like their California Zephyr set.) Always hope, can't believe that tooling was thrown away. The only drawback to them was the NOT flush fitting windows.
