I purchased a Lionel 2031281 - Legacy T1 Steam Locomotive a couple of weeks ago. I noticed (recently) a staticy background noise that is pretty prominent. There is no volume pot to turn. The only way to get rid of it, is to hoist the volume up pretty well. Is anyone else experiencing the same? If yes, is it normal?

Thanks Marty. I do remember seeing these threads. The issue is with the new steam engine. It sounds like that is going to be the new norm (crumby ambient sound). I plan to put my new E8's on the layout this weekend. I hope I have an exception compared to what I have read in the treads you attached here.
I did do a new re-address and my minds eye thought the noise was improved. Friday night is always a fun train night. I will have to report back.
