Today I was given a Lionel Box Car body. It says "Lionel Lines Engineer Some Fun" on the upper left side. On the lower right is L.L.R.R. 9700. It has a date built of 1999. The body color is orange with silver roof and silver ends. It has blue doors. Does anyone know something about the car body? It is not listed anywhere in the Kalmbach 2015 guide to Lionel Trains.

Sounds like a Lionel club membership car.
Well sounds like but wasn't. It would have made a nice one though.

That's the car that someone gave me but why is it not listed in the Kalmbach guide. I would guess they miss some cars sometimes. I thought that it might have been issued as part of the 100th anniversary as it is in the same colors as the SD90 diesel
locomotive from 2000. Thank you Ed.
Ed, that car (as a part of a set) may not have been listed because, as a set piece, it was not assigned a "catalog" number. BTW, "9700" is not a catalog number, but indicates the boxcar's body style. "9700" is likely embossed on one end of the car, as it has been on the 1,000's made. Nice car, though & likely harder-than-usual to find as a separate piece because few want to break up their sets. One of the last years for production BY Lionel in the USA, too!

BTW, what do you mean by box car "body?" Do you mean just the plastic shell with no chassis/trucks?
