UNION PACIFIC LEGACY LIONMASTER CHALLENGER 4-6-6-4 STEAM (6-82695)

This engine has been running fine for me for about a month as that's when I purchased it. Yesterday however it sounded like it was making a noise as it was making it's way around the layout, and then it started to become very jerky at low speeds. I reset the engine a few times, made sure the nuts were tight on the drivers, and made sure all the wheels on the locomotive and tender were spinning fine.

I ran some tests, turned off the volume and it really sounds like something is slipping, but perhaps the experts on this board can give me their opinion.

Video below of what I'm seeing and hearing.

Yes, check for secure motor-mounting hardware/screws. These LM articulateds (like their RK equivalents) are actually built more like diesels with swiveling trucks on a rigid frame, even though they look like steamers.

The sound, to me, does not sound like a flywheel scrape; it sounds more like gear "lash" - which can come from a loose motor situation.

Another possibility is electronic - as if a motor or both motors are not getting proper speed control commands from the board - turn off Odyssey and check it then.

Also - and importantly - e-mail Lionel from their "Support" feature on the website and describe the problem. They know more than do we.
