Recently I purchased a Lionel (LTI) 3413 Mercury Capsule car from a fellow forum member. It came in an orange box that seems to be a replica of the original postwar car.
So far, I haven't had any luck in figuring out the LTI stock number.
Can anybody help me out?
I am also wondering when it was released, and whether it was separate sale, or part of a set.

I looked up the Orbitor set on the Lionel site, but the descroption page didn't give individual car numbers. So I tried the Lionel parts web page and got the numbers for individual cars.
The mercury capsule launch car (3413) is number 27747.
The set was in a 2009 catalog.
I guess this was the first offering, because all of the non-generic parts for the car carry "7747"as part of their item number.
The car was just recently offered as a Lionel Railroader Club special. Were there other versions?
