Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member and not certain I'm posting this in the correct/best forum (please advise if not).  Does anyone know if Lionel's Century Club UP M-10000 came with a miniature replica builders plate?

I and several other locomotive builder plate collectors heard that Lionel issued miniature replica builders plates with several Century Club locomotives (NYC Niagara, UP M-10000, PRR Sharknose, FM Trainmaster and NYC Empire State Hudson) - but have not seen one for the UP M-10000.  I'd love to get one - or at least see one - because there is great uncertainty umongst locomotive builder plate collectors as to what the original builder plates looked like on this model locomotive and the replica may provide some insight.

Although the M-10000 is our main focus, if you can provide a picture of any of these miniature plates it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!

DOUG & LARRY:  Thank you both for providing pictures of the Lionel M-10000 replica builders plate!  I'm going to have a few other builder plate collectors look at it but my initial assessment is that Lionel made their best guess at what the M-10000 plate may have looked like because the replica uses a mixture of design layouts used by EMC/EMD in the mid-late 1930s - early 1940s.  In any event, it is a really cool looking replica plate and I will keep my eyes open on ebay for someone selling one.

I'll try to attach a couple pics of actual cast bronze EMC/EMD builder plates from the late 1930s - early 1940s.  The "Switching Locomotive" format was earliest, followed by the right-side GM logo plate, followed by the left-side GM logo plate - which didn't debut until several years after the M-10000 was built.  I've also seen a real Winton labeled plate but not with the GM logo (they were acquired by GM).

Note: These early plates are cast bronze and range from about 12" (switching Locomotive) to about 15" long.

Hope you find this info interesting!

Dave

I’ve got a four of these builders plates. Does anyone know what the two Alco plates are from? One is s/n 73802 built 01/46. The other is s/n 68863 built 10/37.57E77565-0384-4A89-8F2A-FD0243914E23

The 4 builders plates shown are all from the Century Club 2.  One plate not shown is the UP M-10000 plate.  2 Alco plate's have to be the NYC ESE Hudson and NYC Niagara.
