UPDATE: Many, many thanks to Marty Fitzhenry for taking the time out of his day to walk me through wiring the locomotive back up over the phone. What a guy, and the next York I go to it'll have to be a cold one on me at Thursday at Fridays. The locomotive is running silk smooth now and I've performed a factory reset. There were just two last questions I had about the locomotive's operation to make sure it's all working properly. First, was the smoke unit on these always on or an intermittent chuffing unit? Second, is the firebox glow (on the sides, not the cab flicker) supposed to be always on or only when the locomotive is in motion? Thanks for any help guys.

ORIGINAL POST: Does anyone have service documents for Lionel's TMCC M1a? Lionel's website only has the manual for their M1a, and when I called to see if they could provide me with the other documents, I was told Lionel technicians do not have or use wiring diagrams (which I think the customer service rep was mistaken about to be honest). So, would any service station or tech guys here happen to have these documents on hand?

Thanks for that tip, but it's a bit different. The closest one I have found so far is the scale TMCC Berkshires, but they have an extra board that changes things up a bit.

Thanks for the info Rick. The M1a I just put back together has steady smoke and ashpan glow when in motion, whereas my Lionel Y6b (which was made around the time of the M1a) has chuffing smoke and ashpan glow at all times, so that's why I was asking. I guess there was a certain point in time between the two where they decided to switch things up.

The k4 and the m1a were very similar at the time they were made and both had steady smoke (non puffing).  I upgraded my k4 with a Lionel smart smoke unit and it now puffs in sync.  The m1a is next on my list for doing that upgrade.  Since it already has the 5 volt acc regulator, i believe you just need to buy the smart smoke unit.

If you wanted to upgrade the smoke.....
