I have a legacy mikado and it has striped the main gear. The star design of the axel was not the best idea to hold this gear on IMO. A flat spot in the gear casting and on the axel would have been better IMO.

Lionel list the chassies as show in the photo at $140. This chassis part is needed to get the engine running again. The gear box is made in such a way as non repaiable to the gear.

My question is this. Realizing that all the electronics need swaped over plus extra chassie parts from the old chassis to the new one. When you replace the side rods on the wheels do they just swap over or do you have to quarter the drivers in anyway when you put them on the new chassis?

I belive if I take carfull pics and swap parts one at a time I could do this myself. Is it as easy as it seems or am I bitting off more than I can chew here. Here is the chassie part I will need.

Just to be clear, you should not have to quarter the drivers. They will have been pressed on correctly at the factory. There are quartering jigs you can buy from sources like Northwest Shortline. I used machinist squares and indicators to do mine.

I can't comment on the gear problem. I have some Legacy Mikados but no problems so far.
