A question for those that have operated their dining cars.

When I place my dining car on the track with the under car light switch in the “On” position the interior lights do not work. Do the lights need to be activated with command control? Or am I missing something else?

 Thanks!

Thats actually prototypical, at least for us.  The diner is not in use for general public/lounging during the entire trip, its only open during meal periods.  I would assume thats why the lights are out on the model until you active the dining car is open announcements .

Frank, I noticed your dining car does not have the interior lights on in the video. Is the switch under the car in the On position during this video? Have you been able to get the lights on the dining car to turn on?

 Thanks

Yessir, I turn them on from time to time.  Its just like DSH said, gotta use the legacy remote to turn them in.  Train link it and you will be good to go.

I had some problem with mine until I upgraded to Cab v1.61.  Initially I had 1.52 and found that if I had pressed the mute button on the diner I could not turn the lights on.  If I unmuted I  could turn the lights on and off.   If the lights were on and  I pressed  mute  I couldn't turn them off.  Seemed like the mute button locked the light switch in whatever state it was in at the time the mute button was pushed.  I upgraded to v1.61 and that quirk went away.

FYI for those asking this question. The code for these cars was made so that the car has to be activated via the Cab for the lights to turn on, similar to an engine. In future releases of these cars, we've changed it so that the lights will come on with track power like the rest of the cars. The car will not need to have command control started up.

We can't reprogram the cars that have shipped, but Diners will have this feature in new releases moving forward.

Just wanted to let people know.

Also, it is all but impossible to locate Lionel E9’s to pull these cars, and now Lionel has announced nearly identical Challenger cars.  Anyone know if they are going to re-issue more E9’s or maybe E8’s...?

Yes, they did disappear quickly ... most anything UP does.  Good news is you can run the VL challanger, UP 844, TMCC E7;s and even some TMCC F3's with it if you so desire. I even ordered the UP E6 city of San Francisco locomotives just to change things up a bit.

Does the UP station sound car have the little boy saying wow, she is a beauty referring to the engine? If so, how do you get that scenario? I believe I heard a forum member playing that on his AF car & heard that scenario.

I have yet to run across this scenario yet?  It does have some dilouge of a boy and his mom and the conductor but I personally have not heard the engine referenced yet.

I'm late to the party as usual, but I just got my first set- a 2-car expansion set w/ the Texas Eagle coach and the Columbine Vista dome (1927050). I the trucks are very nicely detailed- the couplers, truck frames, and interiors show where Lionel cut costs. And the cheap packaging explained why a few ladders were detached- easily fixed. I'm really looking forward to running them behind my Challenger,  and getting more of these. And I'm still looking for the 4-car set (6-83042).
