I am trying to get a very old Lionel No 38 Loco put back together and running. The "cow-catcher" on both ends of the loco are held on with two fillister-head slotted screws (see pics). One of these screws has stripped threads.

The screw fits a #6 hole, but it is not a #6-32, or #6-40, or a #6-48. Those are the only #6 options on my thread-finder. The screw is 1/2" long.

What is the threading on this oddball screw? Any ideas on where to get a replacement?

Thank you in advance.

@LOVETJ

I have a possible source for your screws. Since this business is not an OGR forum advertiser, I cannot post the contact information here. Contact me via my E-Mail address that is listed in my profile, and I will send you their contact information. Be sure to refresh my feeble memory in your E-Mail correspondence with your OGR screen name and a reminder as to the subject of your OGR post.

Mystery solved. It is a #6-32x1/2 Fillister Head Slotted Machine Screw. These can easily be found online.

After help and direction from @Randy Harrison I found a modern machine screw with #6-32 threads and it did indeed thread into the engine's frame! The threads on the old original Lionel screw must have been too beat-up to thread into the #6-32 hole on my thread detective tool.

@CJ Meyers Here is the information I promised to update.
