sorry for these not so great screen shots. On the TM video, Tom Snyder said these lights on the wall face are old Lionel No.58 lamp post "tops" that he found a box of at good ol' Madison Hardware. These look like the lamp posts (painted red)Screen Shot 2016-03-15 at 6.56.51 PMScreen Shot 2016-03-15 at 7.03.47 PM, but as you can see from the pics here, they are BENT - so as "to swivel out of the way" if need be as Mr. Snyder says.

Do you folks think his layout builder did a bit of creative kitbashing- may have cut off the tall pole section and base, and perhaps then HEATED them to bend them??

Definitely bent #58 lamps.

They may have been bent by inserting a brass rod the same diameter as the inner diameter of the tube/post and using that as a support for a clean bend (with the wiring removed then rewired). Heat would have distorted the paint and required repainting. ???

Or maybe the pole was bent completely freehand without heat, which could be done if you have "the touch".
