Lionel No.58 lamp post TOPS on Tom Snyder's layout??

Definitely bent #58 lamps.

They may have been bent by inserting a brass rod the same diameter as the inner diameter of the tube/post and using that as a support for a clean bend (with the wiring removed then rewired). Heat would have distorted the paint and required repainting. ???

Or maybe the pole was bent completely freehand without heat, which could be done if you have "the touch".

There are also tubing benders that are heavy springs that slip over the tubing. And there are tubing benders that are designed to bend automotive brake lines and fuel lines

You may find it less expensive to modify 6-2171. They are injection molded plastic instead of metal. That would give you the option of creating bent brass neck and replacing the plastic or heating the plastic to get the bend.

Anyway, seems better to kit bash those then the No. 58s.

You could also look for the MTH reproduction #58 lamp posts. In my opinion, they were nicely done. The last time I checked, they were fairly inexpensive, but I did not see any bargains on EBay just now. They were made in a number of different colors.
