I recently installed a new Lionel Oil Drum Loader #22997. It comes with a flat car, but I would prefer to have a gondola car. I have two gondola cars, but the fork lift device is two load to place the barrel in these. What I discovered is if you elevate the platform by 3/8" inch the platform loader drops the barrels nicely. Has anyone also discovered this as well? Any thoughts?

two low (not load)
It was originally an American Flyer "S" accessory. As such, it was made for an "S"-height gondola (comparatively shorter sides). As you have discovered, elevation to "0" height is needed if used with an "0" gondola (comparatively higher sides). I am not sure why this is not better indicated by Lionel.
Thanks guys. All the information is great and gives me a lot of ideas. I will raise both my Oil barrel loader and my K Line operating loading platform (with conveyor and crates).
