I have seen Lionel O54 tubular track with 5 ties (as was K-Line). However, I have also seen it with three ties. Is this right? Did Lionel change this configuration at some point?

If I remember correctly there were 2 different versions of the track. You are correct.

The three tie O54 track is actually O27 track. All other O54 track is O gauge track.
I think Bob means the 3 tie O54 track is O27 profile track.

Are you sure? I cant check now because they are packed away, but I think I have three tie O54 that is O gauge.

I have O27 54" curves and some have 3 and some have 5. I believe K-line did the 5 and Lionel did the 3. As with Bill, I can't confirm this right now.

I can confirm that K-line had five ties and some Lionel have three ties, in O (not sure about O27). I have the impression that Lionel also made a five tie version. I may be wrong about that.

I have 054 radius track in 027 profile, made by Lionel and there are 3 ties per section.
I also have 042 radius and it is 3 ties per section.
