600 = xxxx (4 digit number) post war & MPC like 3464 or 8851
610 = xxxxx (5 digit number) like 18010 that begin with a 1
620 = same as 610 but begins with a 2
630 = same as 610 but begins with a 3
640 = American flyer
650 = special & club cars
680 =
690 = tender numbers for 600- engines
691 = tenders for 610- engines

Thank you so much! I wonder if you might know the difference between 610, 620, and 630, was it just points in time that Lionel decided to change up their part numbering scheme? Did the break in part numbering occur at points in time when Lionel was changing hands? Changing locations? Or perhaps because they were simply running out of available numbers? There is an awful lot of rolling stock with 8xxx and more to the point, 9xxx part numbers out there
