Hi,

I have a set of Lionel MP54 commuter cars, 6-18306, that had a bulb go bad.  I followed the directions in the owner's manual and removed the bulb, but was surprised to find out that although the bulb looked like an L57, 12-14 volt bayonet base bulb, it is actually a 5 volt bayonet base bulb.  I searched a couple of parts houses and even called Lionel, but nobody seems to have a 5 volt bayonet base lamp.  The Lionel manual doesn't mention a part number for the bulb.  I put in a 6 volt bulb that's used in the 2400 series passenger cars, but it is dim because the output voltage from the regulated board is only 5 volts.  Does anybody know a part number for that 5 volt bulb?

Thanks,

Lonnie

Wow,

The O Gauge forum is great!  Yesterday I was wondering where I was going to get a 5 volt bulb to replace one of the bulbs in my MU cars.  This morning I posted the problem on this forum and TrainLarry responded with an answer.  I found out a few minutes after reading his post that the store with a replacement lamp was only 20 minutes from my front door.  This wouldn't be possible without the O Gauge Forum!  I also got a response from Joe Fermani who has spare parts if I need them.

Thanks,

Lonnie

I see you found a source. That's good. I'll share a little info for just FYI. Lionel as far as I know never had in inventory separate sale bulbs, even though there was a part number. See the master parts list and it is not listed. The closest Lionel had is 6 volt bulbs that had a bayonet base and large dome (actually the dome is half way between a small 53 and a large dome 430 bulb) and is made off shore. IMG_0698IMG_0693
