Hi,

My original lionel 2035 probably need a new smoke unit.  I noticed that in the front where the light is there is a small tab that when moved the front round section moves Is this how to inspect the smoke unit?  If not how do you get at it?  Does the whole locomotive need to be disassembled?  Any suggestions.

Thanks,

John

How does the front boiler front open?  I do not want to force something.  Are there any printed instructions or videos on YouTube on how to disassemble the 2035 locomotive?

Thanks

Its just how the headlight is changed .The front (where headlight is) pulls straight out its held inside by spring clips on each side inside 2 grooves cast into boiler so do not twist just pull straight out not grabbing the marker lamps as they may break off . Those spring clips act as a ground for the headlight.

You basically as said have to take motor out its just a bunch of screws and time consuming but once apart you can clean commutator, brushes etc. Take pictures of each side of the drive rods especially the orientation of the eccentric crank so you put them back on the same way or the wheels will not turn all the way around.

First one made in 1950 with half moon eccentric crank and large round magnet located above wheel set the last year made in 1951 had 2 pin eccentric crank and rectangle magnet above wheel set.

Have both versions and they are excellent pullers and runners due to there large magnets and weight.

Need any more help just ask in thread.
