Hi all,

I am now starting to wire in my accessories on a constant voltage terminal of my post-war ZW Transformer. Everything is working pretty good except I can't get my 364 Lumber loader to work at all. I am getting 14 volts to the loader but nothing except the light will work when I press on the C post it is connected to. Please advise different checks I can make. The accessory he is absolutely like new but I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the motor? Can you please advise how to check it without taking it off the accessory.

Much thanks, jerry

The A Post is for the Lamp.     The B Post is for the Conveyor Motor.   The C Post is the Common / Ground

Check to see that the Tab from the B Post makes contact with the button that connects the wire to the Motor.   Check that the wire from the B Post to the Motor is in good shape and properly connected to the contact on the motor that is closest to the pulley wheel.   The contact on the Motor closest to the frame is the common / ground.  Have you checked to see if the motor works by making direct wire connection with the 2 electrical contacts on the motor ?

Jerry   -  Open up the back by taking the screws off.   You should see one wire running from the B Post to the motor.  Run a pair of wires from your transformer to the 2 contacts seen on the motor.  If the motor works, then the wire from the B Post to the motor might be bad.   Check to see that the copper wire on the side of the motor closest to the frame is not broken or loose.

Ok Steve,

I took the back cover off and the pulley. Then remove the motor and applied ground to the diecast part of the motor and positive to the soldered lug of the motor and got a little humming and then a Little Smoke? I then tried a wire from the A post of the loader to the motor and nothing. I applied the jumper wire to the B post to the motor then ground and got the same humming and little smoke. I'm assuming now the motor is the culprit and where do I go from here as far as repairing it? I have tons and tons of parts but don't know how to repair the motor or what could be wrong with it. If you could advise I would appreciate it.

Thank you very much, Jerry

Jerry -

The motor may be jammed up on the inside with old grease. Try to take the motor apart, keep track of the parts.  Clean the top of the commutator with isopropyl alcohol, also clean the brushes.   If the brushes are bad they may need to be replaced. Clean out the grease and oil if it looks dirty.  Add clean Lubricant.  There are many discussions here on the forum about how and what to use for Lubricant.  See if your local hobby shop has a Labelle Lubrication Kit.  They come with a tube of grease and some oil.   Put the motor back together and try again.  Good Luck

Steve

Hi Steve,

Still can't get anything to work. I pulled the motor and if I turn the Armature it will not turn the pulley shaft. I took it apart and may have a bad worm screw. It's funny because this thing is virtually like new. I still can't get anything to work as far as the motor is concerned. Could it be a bad Armature?. Do you know anywhere I could possibly get a new worm gear for it? Even so, I still have to get the motor working.  Getting very frustrated!!!!

did you thoroughly clean out all the old grease as it can get as hard as a rock, I would try to run the ac motor outside of the loader frame, if it will not run when off the lumber frame you have a motor issue, does it smell like a burnt smell when you sniff the motor windings they should be a reddish color if the windings are very dark brown or black the windings could be cooked !!!! it is very important that the brush springs have tension or the brush won't make good enough contact with the commentator and wont run or draw high current or even hum, do the windings get warm to the touch??

Alan

p.s. good luck
