I have pride lines M10000 which is a exact remake of the old prewar Lionel m10000. It runs fine but very loudly. I have worked on it and it is still loud. I know it is not not the e-unit because it has an electronic one now. So what can I do to make it more quiet.

You are operating in TMCC, not with an electronic e-unit or via the transformer directly. Open frame motors do not always "like" the speed steps/pulses of TMCC control boards. Altering the momentum settings may help, but you may need to learn to live with it if you want to keep TMCC. You might also try running it conventionally, if possible.

Really, it's often just the motor's architecture; open-frame AC motors are by nature loud - or can be. Some are not, particularly. My Lionel 5344 TMCC Hudson, AC motor and all, is not very noisy - I have a can-motor Williams brass Challenger that is noisier. A lot of it depends on the resonance through the frame and body of the loco, too.

Some thin internal foam sheets properly fitted inside the body may help. Never tried it.

Sid:  Pride Lines motors were not quite as precision as even Lionel's pre-war motors were.  What you hear is gear noise.  Not much you can do to quiet that.  One possibility might be  to watch for a 752 motor at a train show and replace the original one with a Lionel, but if you get one that has been run a lot, it may be just as noisy as that one.  If it were mine, I would simply run it until the wheels come off, and then change out the motor.  Nice looking train there, with that extra baggage car.

Yeah, I know that it's just the gears being loud. If you watch the second video it is a bit quieter after cleaning. Anyway it is still a fine set.
