I am interested in the Lionel Legacy version # 6-11224 that came out in 2010 and in earlier TMCC versions of this loco. The earlier versions appear to be the same loco as far as scale size. For those who own or owned one of these, are they scale proportionally? What discrepancies if any do you see in scale details? Are they good pullers? How do they perform? I do not use smoke so that is not an issue for me. Thanks.

They are scale size, the TMCC and Legacy models are the same size. They're decent pullers, and they'll handle O31 curves without any issues, at least mine does. I have the Legacy version with whistle smoke.
Thanks John. Since you have the Legacy version, you don't have to mess with a 4 chuff fix. I wonder if that would be a difficult project since this is a smaller loco.
You should be able to fit that into it, I have the one with whistle smoke, so there's absolutely NO room anywhere in the thing! I cringe at taking them apart. I did a repair on one recently, and it took me about four tries to get the shell back on without wires sticking out! The TMCC version will have a lot more room as there is less electronics, so I don't think it'll be a big issue.
If I decide to buy one if available, I would obviously prefer the legacy version, but the TMCC version might work for me as well, depending on price of course. But one more question about the TMCC version(s). My Lionel consolidation that I purchased from a previous owner had some issues with lurching after a few months of operating. I cleaned track, wheels and rollers so many times. I later read somewhere that the lurching was not uncommon on that loco. I eventually had ERR installed in the consolidation and that cured the lurch. I am wondering if the early versions of the Atlantic had that problem as well.
You are talking about the Odyssey 1 lurch? That's common with some locomotives, yet others run fine without any issues. Never have figured why some do it and some don't. There were firmware upgrades along the production cycle.
Unless the Atlantic has Odyssey 1, it won't have that problem.
Just for your thinking, I sent my little Legacy version to Gunrunner John as Lionel could not make it work correctly. Gunrunner made this Engine run so GOOD, Work So Great, that I love this little Engine. (This might be the one he mentioned) Happy Railroading.
I have the TMCC B&O version from 2000. I got it when they were being blown out for less than half price. It is a good little runner.
If I remember correctly, the 2000 versions (B&O, Santa Fe and Pennsy) did not have Odyssey. The 2001 versions (Northern Pacific and Southern Pacific) did have Odyssey.
I haven't had lurching issues with my early E6. ( edit: just a concern with Odyssey 1 so disregard ). It's happily one of those early Lionel engines with TMCC and a can motor. I'm awaiting an order from ERR then it will be fitted with cruise and 4 chuffs per. I'll be happy to do away with the cherry switch as it has been replaced twice. Even the early edition takes 5 hands to reassemble so the fewer repairs the better. I also plan to tie the tender roller pickup to the engines in hopes it's smooth performance won't stall on certain turnouts.
As John says, it's a scale E6 and it appears the level of detail hasn't changed since first offered. The Legacy edition has some extra cosmetics...painted window frames and such. As expected, its not a heavy puller, suited better for a short commuter consist, just like the real thing. It hauls around 5 Lionel heavyweights and a couple of front end cars no problems.

Good informative thread for me as I too would like to add a PRR E6 to my roster. I would prefer an 11224 also, but after this thread, would be more likely to "settle" for one of the earlier non legacy versions. I think I would also be happy with an older Williams brass version for the right price and then update it with some fo the newer gagets.
Larry's engine was the one that I had so much fun with. Once you start replacing parts inside and moving the wires around, it's really a lot of fun to try to get them back where they belong!
If I am not mistaken, when I view photos of the PRR version, it appears that the engine color is the classic PRR engine color as opposed to black. I would like to get a PRR version, but if the price is right, maybe I could live with black and re-letter? That is an ugly thought! What is a good price point for a TMCC model?
