I know that My best course of action would be to bring the train in for repair, but I'm stubborn in wanting to understand the workings of and repair my own things, especially since this not the first and I don't expect this to be the last time I have a problem with my trains.
Can anyone suggest some basic troubleshooting steps for the motorized unit that lights, but does nothing else, (i.e. doesn't run and no sound in either legacy or conventional mode and absolutely no response to the legacy controller. ), It was fine last year when i first took it out of the box brand new. Its been run a couple of hours at the most. I'm certainly not an electrical expert but I have a fluke multimeter, and a willingness to learn how to use it for testing purposes. I tried the reset. That didn't work. I tried to make sure all the plugs were snug. Wires looked ok after I jiggled them around to see If I could identify a short or pinched wire. I tried to take off the sound and radio receiver boards just to eliminate those as potential sources of problems and run it in conventional mode. I have an old ZW transformer. and I was using a 15 amp fuse to connect it to the track. Admittedly I did not have the fuse connected when i first put it on the track this year but I don't think I could have fried it that quickly since it didn't move at all. I guess anything's possible though. Other legacy trains running fine.
