I'm refurbishing a 60+ year old Lionel train set and am currently working on the whistle control. When I depress the whistle button continually at regular train speeds it blows quickly and then shuts off. If I reduce train speed to a crawl the whistle will blow continually until I release the button. Is this normal?

Try applying whistle at slow speed and notch up to normal speed then release whistle, what happened

Thanks for the rely. At low speed, whistle continues to blow when button is depressed. As I raise speed with button still depressed, relay on tender drops out. Seems like there’s a DC voltage component drop.
