I was out of the hobby when Lionel released their large Grand Central Terminal structure in 2009-2010 and would enjoy seeing pictures of it on people's layouts. Anyone have this? I recall some years ago visiting New York City around the holidays and seeing a neat O-gauge structure at the actual Grand Central building, I think that layout was done by TW design, and that layout had a model of the Terminal, although I am not sure that was the Lionel model. That was a really neat layout as I recall.

I've since seen the smaller version come out, and would like to see pictures of that one of people's layouts as well. I recently saw it in Skip's OGR article.

I have both, however my permanent layout isn't finished to the point where I can add it. Still waiting for Atlas O Dwarft Signals to install on the tracks that will go under the station. The small one arrived literally hours before I had to take my Christmas Layout down last February. You can see a picture of it on page 45 of the December OGR.

Thanks for the nice comments.

The platform for GCT is made from ⅜" MDF and layered ⅛" hardboard for the columns and fascia. Painted with grays, tans, and concrete color, then weathered slightly.

the interior has three tracks with platforms and lighting. Not shown is the photo is a subway station with two tracks.

Although it is not prototypical, tough to get the Pam Am building in your basement, many of our friends who see it immediately recognize it.  GCT is an American icon, I am lucky to have this model of it. I wish I had room for TW's Penn Station, whose demolition was one of our country's most short sighted mistakes, if not sins.

After studying some pictures of the real terminal, it occurred to me why Lionel and TW Design didn't make the station multi-leveled as the picture shows. One reason may have been would have been too large. It would be challenging to model this station as it actually sits in NYC, but it would be neat, especially with moving cars via SuperStreets. From the picture, it doesn't appear that there are actual doors on the level the abutements sit on?

Hello all ...I was fortunate to be able to pick up one of the large GCT last week ....now working it into the layout .... I'll need to fabricate the lower level store fronts and find a source for a railing around the edge .  The back is going to need some help .... Plans to add a glass roof car shed onto the back ..template in photo .  GCT is certainly an icon of architecture .

Cheers Carey
