Can Lionel conventional S2 switcher be upgraded to run in MTH DCS mode?

Since MTH has also made the S2, I'm assuming you want a road name/paint scheme that only Lionel has done. Personally, I think a better approach would be to take an MTH S2 with factory electronics and have it repainted and lettered to the road you want. The Lionel S2's are very tricky to take apart and a conversion done by a third party will be expensive.
Yep, the S2 is a bit of a PITA to work on! 
Bob is correct, find a nice 3V PS/2 or PS/3 model from MTH and have it painted. Of course, painting it won't be cheap either as usually it has to come apart anyway for a quality paint job.
