I am in the market for an ABBA F3 set. I came across 2 choices 6-14588 ABA and 6-24529 AA then the package has added on to both a power B and for the AA set another dummy B to create ABBA for both at same price point. I am looking to find out is either better detailed, better features and same electronics? I am shopping online as I haven't come across them locally so hard to judge. Thanks for any input. I believe one is from 2002 and the other 2005. Also both new in box but concerned no warranty as prices 1,000 seem about full retail. Thx

Hopefully several fellas with more knowledge (Norton, Marker) will chime in here with correct info but we have the 2005 issue and are generally pleased with it. The engine sounds are decent except for the horn which is pitiful!

A suggestion is to look for one of the f7 'breakdown B units' which have great sound and the amusing breakdown feature in lieu of the regular non-powered B unit.

If you're planning to get an A-B-B-A Santa Fe set, I'd avoid the MPC versions made in '76 & '77. They're cat #s: 8652 / 53 / 8777. They're very handsome but with just 1 motor, no horn or Magnetraction they're weak runners. (Better display trains than for the operator.)

I believe it was 2002 at the TCA Museum manufacturer presentations during York week when Matt A. brought the shells out and announced these new units as Lionel's first scale F3 diesels. I am just repeating his words during this announcement.

In any event, I am NOT a rivet counter and could care less whether they are or are not scale, they still are beautiful diesels that have been run faithfully for many years.
