Found a video on YouTube from a guy who picked one up at a yard sale. In his description of opening and cleaning the powered unit, he says there is one motor (around 2:00 minutes in to the video).

Single motor rubber tire traction. 2243 w/ better decoration but no horn / no MagneTraction. The 2383 was pictured in the catalog but when it came out, the paint & decoration was quite literally stunning.
