Hey Charlie, is there any word on a 2016 Dealer Appreciation Boxcar yet?  Thx...

David,

Not trying to circulate a bit of "tittle-tattle", but I have been told by my local Lionel dealer that this particular boxcar series is being discontinued, maybe Charlie can confirm or deny.

Sorry for straying off topic...

Thanks, WTJOHN.  I don't think it's off-topic at all.  I figured by this time in the year, we'd have seen these cars on a shipping schedule by now.  So that's why I asked Charlie about it.  Stuff seems to have a relatively short attention-span these days, and these boxcars started back around 2008 I believe.  So 7 or 8 years isn't that bad of a run at all.  These started out as being somewhat of a "collectors item", since dealers reportedly only initially received ONE boxcar for being an authorized Lionel dealer.  Then a couple of years ago, Lionel opened the floodgates so-to-speak and allowed dealers to order multiple "Dealer Appreciation" boxcars after listing them for a pre-order period with their customers.  That was likely the beginning of the end.

If it is indeed true that the "Dealer Appreciation" boxcars are now discontinued, I suspect the Lionel party line will be that the "replacement" is now the National Train Day boxcar.  Last year's boxcar was billed as "available for purchase directly from your LHS only  on National Train Day".  But even months later, dealers were still selling them like any other piece of rolling stock.  So all that hype was just marketing gibberish in an attempt to get folks to walk into a brick-and-mortar LSH, which is a laudable goal.  But just don't get caught lying about it -- which they quickly did.
