Hey all, here's a project I recently did for a friend, taking an Lionel TMCC Southern daylight Pacific A-6 Atlantic and changing it too an all black SP paint scheme, following prototype pics of SP #3000. Changes include-

-Stripping paint on Vanderbilt tender and cab, then repainting both black

-new decals on cab and tender

-scratch made headlight visors for both front and rear headlight

-stripping paint on steam chest and removed PRR elements with a Dremel and file (this loco uses the same chassis as the PRR E-6) used model filler to fill those areas, sanded primed and repainted steam chest

-stripped and repainted the drive wheels, as these engines are known for having outgassing/chipping paint.

-repainted smokebox and firebox a darker shade of graphite.

-new pilot and trailing trucks, the original ones had cracked plastic bearings and those aren't available anymore, at some point Lionel redesigned both the pilot and trailing trucks, so those were installed instead. These were painted black to match the drive wheels.

Currently does not run, but the owner will be installing a blunami sound board. 20230904_12422020230904_12490320230904_12490020230904_124226lionel_sp_3000_by_736berkshire_da8zzbd-pre

That is one of the few, if only, SP steamer where Lionel put the class lights on the sides of the smokebox as the SP did, instead of on the boiler front which is correct for the UP Harrimans, but not the SP.  Many letters to Lionel about this go unanswered.  Great looking loco, thanks for showing the project

I’ve got one of these that will eventually get a correct boiler tube pilot but the biggest thing I’d like to change is the valve gear and steam chest. I like the work you did here on the steam chest so now I just need to figure out how to correct the valve gear.

I’ve already added SP blowdown mufflers and put a fan driven smoke unit in it.
