Did Lionel ever make a Standard O boxcar with steam railsounds. I know they did
for diesel railsounds, because I have one.
Thanks. Lew Schneider

I have one made in the 6464 traditional size boxcar. Not sure if they made one in the scale, Standard O size.
Something jogs in my memory about one with diesel sounds....a Standard O Conrail boxcar in Tuscan with a yellow door....late 90s, early aughts...but I am not sure about steam.....
Leaving for work but will try to search later.....

UPDATE
My memory wasn't as good as I thought....not Conrail, Rail Box. Not Standard O, tradition 6464-sized......here are some pics....the catalog precedes the picture.....

Lionel made both a diesel and steam sounds boxcars. They were in the 2005 catalog. Both were “classic” size and shells could be interchanged with any other 6464 boxcar.
Lionel also made a Seaboard steam RailSounds boxcar in 2001, and I use it behind steamers made before. They made a Conrail boxcar (6-19860), with diesel sounds, but I put the shell from a 6-16237 REA boxcar on it so I could run pre-Conrail engines which didn’t have sound. I also put a 6464 Lackawanna shell on it for awhile. I like the fact that they are interchangeable with 6464 style boxcars.
Lionel also offered an undecorated steam rail sounds tender sometime in the 1995-1996 time era. I think this was or close to scale size.
Thanks for the comments guys but I'm afraid you've confirmed my fears. As I mentioned
i own a scale size Standard O Railbox boxcar with diesel Railsounds which is significantly longer, wider and higher than the semi-scale 6464 series.
My understanding is that the REA steam Railsounds is semi-scale like the 6464s.
I used to own the tender with Railsounds but it was definitely semi-scale. Looked good with
the 646 and 2046 but did not mate well with scale steamers.
So it looks like Lionel did not make scale length (Standard O) boxcar with steam railsounds.

Lew,
You're correct. Lionel did not make the equivalent Steam RailSounds version to your diesel 6-17214 Railbox Standard O boxcar or the earlier diesel 6-17202 Santa Fe Standard O boxcar from the early 1990's.
The Steam RailSounds boxcars from the 1990's and early 2000's are the 6464-style variety.
If you're interested in "rolling your own" and adding sound to an existing car, I can set you up with the proper components. Shoot me a note at the address in my profile.
