Good afternoon everyone, I was hoping someone could tell me the ID of this steam engine and give me any info they might have about it. My son-in-law gave it to me, he said he found it in the trash some where.

The steamer appears, from what I see on the cab window, to be a 1684. This was a prewar steamer. Someone added the postwar style drawbar if I read the cab number properly. The tender was made for one of the big groups like the LCCA in the 1990's it looks like, or was custom painted to make a convention tender of some sort. Good luck with it though!
Thanks, the cab number is 1664, Is it something worth fixing?
Parts are on daBay - search 1664; also try Olsen's Toy Train Parts. Nice enough locos. Search the number and "Lionel" on the 'net. Info will appear. As stated above, the tender is from the modern era; the loco is pre-WWII.
It looks complete but needs a good cleaning, lubed and checked out. Will probably run if no internal faults. Late pre-war and not worth a whole lot but could be a decent runner.
Someone custom lettered it 1664 then: as I recall, that cab number was for a 0-4-0 switcher. I might be wrong however.
According to Greenberg it is a 2-4-2.
