Purchased Used, Like new.

I put it on the track.
With power, the bell rings all the time. Can't make it stop.
Horn Works, Station sounds work. Smoke works.
But train will not advance or reverse. The lights do, but the train doesn't move.
I probably tried about 20 times and one time it went forward. When I stopped it, it then would not move again.
Sound like maybe some circuit board issues?

Greg,

Are you using a CAB2 remote? If so check that the brake is not on. If there is a solid blue like underneath the display screen then the brake is on. Sometimes they stick work the brake lever up and down to release….sometimes they stick on.

Also when asking for help please include the Lionel item number 6-XXXXX or 2021XXXX etc.

Thanks John, it's engine 2133201, so, at first, I had just unpacked it and it was on a conventional transformer.

So, I have a track with Legacy CAB 1.

I assigned it and everything works great now, but zero smoke.

In conventional, she was smoking greatly just sitting still!

Any Thoughts, I tried holding down 9, and auxiliary 1 then 9.

Greg,

Have you added smoke fluid since you first tried to run the engine? Based on my experience if you do not put in enough fluid it will not smoke however you can also put in too much fluid which will also stop producing smoke. In diesels I put in 20 to 25 drops, more in steam. But only do it once if you do it a few times and don’t get smoke then you overfilled it. You can turn engine upside down and hope some of the overfill comes out or continue to sun the engine until the smoke fluid burns off. Also before turning the engine over blow down the stack there maybe a air bubble blocking the smoke from coming out.

Since you bought the engine used the original owner could have burnt the wading in the smoke unit by running it without smoke fluid. There are a few guys on the forum who specialize in replacing faulty smoke units in Lionel engines…….Alex M, Gunrunnerjohn and Mike Reagan come to mind.
