I have a Lionel J1a (28078)that has been a "shelf queen" for a long time. Finally took it off the shelf to run. Runs fine but I have noted a couple of things I have questions about. It does not like 072 switches. Derails when it goes over one. Do not know what is causing it. Second thing is that it will not smoke. It is the old piston variety, not fan driven. I checked the piston and it moves. My question is could the batting be so dry that it just needs to be wet down significantly.
Appreciate any ideas you can provide.
