I have one of these steam engines in for repair. The problem is the only thing that works is the whistle. It works with all the buttons for some reason. There is no foreword, reverse, no tower sound, no coupler. The lights and fire glow boards are lit.

You can lock the engine in foreword with the program run switch locked into program but its conventional.

We swapped out the motor board with a new one and nothing improved. We changed the radio board too. No change.

Any ideas of what might be wrong?

Thanks,

Rick

We initially swapped all boards but using a TMCC switcher not TMCC Steam engine. I will now take the shell off a working similar era Steam Engine with pullmor motor and test the R2LC first. I wish there was a way to test boards without swapping them out using a personal engine!

I don’t know what is wrong with Lionel. They don’t answer emails at the talk to us address. I wanted them to test the boards for us and we would pay the fee but no response after a week. And we are a 25 year dealer!

By the way, I love Lionel’s Theatre car. Great camera and fun to use on the layout.

Thank you Rod!

Careful playing musical boards ......especially with locos with can motors and pullmors.....AC driver boards are different than DC driver boards....you could be on the verge of finding all the magic smoke.....Pat
