So, is the PT Tender version more of a fantasy scheme?  Stupid question, but which engine # is the replica of the historical 700E that Lionel originally released?

No, the NYC updated their aging fleet of J1 Hudsons with the PT tenders to increase their distance range.
To answer your second question, #5344 is the number you’re looking for. The real 5344 was the last J1e built for NYC and was later turned into the Commodore Vanderbilt. Definitely an iconic locomotive.

Edit: looks like I got beaten to the punch! Oh well, hope this info still helps.

" Retooled boiler for finer more accurate details than ever before".

Hmm....the " rest " of the K Line hudson?

I may have to eat crow and buy just 1 more new Lionel engine. 🤔

We’ll have to see if the new model has the lagging clamps atop the boiler, ….Kline is the only one to get it right, …..there should be a thin seam atop of the boiler, and lagging clamps holding the skins together,……if they left that detail intact, than more than likely it’s a reborn Kline, ….which would be fine by me!!…..Kline’s die cast boiler shell almost outshines anything in brass, save for a Koh’s ….

did anyone notice the model that doesn’t have class lights??….nice touch!!..

Pat

"One thought on the lack of class lights on one version, that would have applied to the PT tender version as well as those came along well after the class lights came off.

Pete"

Pete, I thought the same thing!  Except that the photo I have of 5401 with the PT tender still shows the class lights intact.  I had permission from the Museum to publish that photo in the Vision promotional video but to avoid any complications, here is a link to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania's archives so you can view for yourself without having to hit pause.  https://rrmuseumpa.andornot.ne...01&p=1&ps=20  As usual, not everything got changed the day the railroad said it should.

Hope you all enjoy the new release!  I thought I'd check in quick to gauge initial reactions but now it's back to work!  Dave and I are both doing our best to keep up with direct emails about this and other projects.  Please understand we are absolutely inundated in planning and execution to make sure our 125th year goes down as one of the best in Lionel's history.  We may not be quite as quick on the reply to emails or regulars on the Forum as we normally like to be.

ryan, perhaps since its lionels anniversary. you could do a reissue of the 50th anniversary set from the tmcc era with the new 5344 engine of course.

These cars are in the most recent catalog, lettered "Lionel Lines." The name on the observation is Concord instead of Sager Place, and the diner's name is Chesterfield instead of Hillside. Other than that, they appear to be very similar to the set that was issued in 2003. If you want NYC cars, there's always the "28th Anniversary" set made by K-Line and available on the secondary market. Both sets look great behind a Hudson.

bluecomet400, I have the 50th anniversary set if you recall. I was thinking of getting the new stationsounds dinner that was offered.

not sure I will be able to get the new vl hudson, but I am going to try. I would get the same road number as came in the set 5344.

that being said I could change my mined and get one with the pt tender. that would be cool.

either way I would have a modern set that had all the latest bells and whistles. I would still keep the original set engine as it belongs with the anniversary set.

Wasn't the loco in the 2003 50th Anniversary a J3A, number 5433?

Well, what a great birthday surprise. @Conrail6358 Ryan must have know my birthday was going to be the release date on this new Hudson. I have not had a chance to have a look at the catalog, but I did watch the video release on it as my phone said I needed to have a look.

I am guessing that the order close date would be whenever the 2025 V1 Catalog would be? Or is that wrong? What was it with the Triplex's?

@harmonyards @Norton Yeah, never enough Hudson's.

Really nice engines Ryan.  Can you elaborate on the whistle differences?  In the video you said one was more traditional, I believe the 5344 and the rest more scale like.  Looking at the catalog illustrations I'm not sure I see the differences.

Thanks.  You guys are really hurting my wallet lately.

I'm usually not one for the fantasy schemes, but I'm pretty happy to see no. 5340 again (a bit of tribute to some more recent modern-era Lionel history) and that paint scheme is extremely eye-catching.

Otherwise, I'm genuinely happy to see an old friend back. The Hudsons have always been a favorite (having owned many over the years), and at that price and all the updated features this new one is extremely hard to resist. I might actually get two of these instead of one.
