This is going to be rough. I bought a type v transformer but the knobs were tight. When I loosened them, the two long knob shafts fell thru to the bottom of the transformer. Looking at Olsen's exploded view, the long shafts are straight for their entire length. It shows a very small clip on the bottom to keep it from being pulled back up thru the body. On mine, the long shafts look sort of like car valves and are obviously fed from the bottom into a recess on the body which may be held with some sort of spring clip probably about 7/8" round with protrusions to hold the shaft in. Anyone have any idea of my dilemma and what would be the actual lionel part # for this spring clip if in fact that is what holds it.

Here is the parts diagram from Olsen's train parts. Looks like a horseshoe clip (ts70) holds the shaft in place. Can also try a C -clip. should be able to get one at a hardware store.

Thanks for the reply. As I stated, my knob shafts do not look like the olsen diagram. Mine are flattened on the bottom to about a 7/8" circle. Maybe they were some type of aftermarket item. Thanks again.
I have not been inside a "V" or a "Z" lately. I think the shafts are held by horse shoe washers, as Franktrain wrote.
Thanks for the reply. I solved my problem by putting a 1/4" wheel collar on top of the gear. That way, the shaft cannot fall through the bottom if the gear come loose. Maybe I have a prototype or something. Might be a collector's item!!
