Charlie, many thanks for the update!!!  Very helpful in how to budget our year-end 2012 "toy train" dollars.

A couple of observations... looks like the second "partial shipment" of UP 4-12-2 #9000's is very real -- after much confusion and growing doubt during the past few months.      YES!!!!

Secondly, although I'm quite happy with my auto-carriers from MTH, I'm glad for those folks who ordered the Lionel versions that they'll be arriving in time for Christmas this year -- even the newly catalog'd 2-packs from 2012 Vol 2, despite the fact that the recent online shipping schedule update has all of these slipping to January 2013.  Gotta love that website schedule.

Also nice to see the scale Polar Express cars will be arriving in time to carry Christmas passenger traffic.

Definitely LOTS of stuff arriving on Santa's sleigh this year!!!  Can't put the wallet away just yet for 2012.

Honest question: if an item is on the list for "Seattle Week Of 12/10" does that mean it is possible it could be under our tree in Wisconsin on Christmas morning???

Not knowing how Lionel's distribution system works, do items in Seattle then get shipped directly to dealers across the US via ground shipping (another 7-14 days)?  Or can dealers have Lionel drop-ship items directly to customers from Seattle?

As far as I know, I don't believe that Lionel is in the business of drop-shopping directly to customers.  Items typically ship to the distributor or large dealer first.  So you then need to factor in how quickly your dealer will then ship the item out to you.

Large dealers like Charlie Ro will often get stuff out to customers within a couple days of its arrival at their store warehouse.  They have a pretty fine-tuned shipping operation, to say the least.  As for the couple of LHS's I also deal with regularly, they pretty much make stuff available for in-store customers the day stuff arrives at the store.

So it's possible.

Got it, thanks.  Does Lionel ship items from Seattle to another distribution center before shipping to dealers across the country?  If so, where is that distribution center located?

As you can see, I'm trying to get an idea of the actual dealer-distribution timeframe here before making a decision to place an order with a particular dealer in a particular part of the country....

Charlie,

Does this list include the made in America products? (I know it is a very small number of products - box cars)

In particular:

Lionel 29976 O-Gauge 2012 Holiday Boxcar

This is no longer on the shipping schedule, and I saw it briefly as shipped November 12 while Lionel was doing all the shipping schedule changes this week, but I don't see it on your list.

Lionel 6-39357 LRRC 2012 Christmas Boxcar

I don't know if you would know anything about this item, as it is a club car, but your list does show a TTOS car. The shipping schedule shows it as Dec 12. On the Lionel LRRC web page, it advertised as shipping Oct 12, but that was wishful thinking.

Well... One of the dealers I purchase from regularly has mentioned from time to time that he receives certain items from Seattle.  However, he's a very large Lionel dealer, and Lionel ships to him directly.

Depending on where you place your order, they may receive items through a distributor. So plan accordingly if that's the case.

Best of luck!

Charlie, is that the list that Mike R was talking about on the other thread?

did you sanitize it or is that the way it comes?  doesn't seem like any secret information.

one other thing, some items are listed twice, is that the number you are getting?

could this list be the items on the water or just going to ship on those dates?

good info.

Correct, as soon as Lionel gets them in Seattle they ship to us and we ship out the SAME DAY. So you WILL get them before Christmas!

The American made stuff is NOT on this list. The Christmas cars are shipping this coming week to us.

This list is the list from Lionel directly, I have not seen the web site list.

Because something is listed several times I think it is either a "error" or more probably several containers.

This time of the year Lionel WANTS to get you your trains asap, so they send both by ship and also fly some critical items in.

I hope this helps!

Which is precisely why the Lionel website shipping schedule has been the recipient of so many less-than-complimentary comments from yours truly lately.

Charlie's list appears to be a fax'd list of items "confirmed" for shipment over the course of the next few weeks.  Although nothing in life is a guarantee, I'm inclined to put more faith in the list Charlie posted.  I wouldn't bet a penny on the accuracy of Lionel's website shipping schedule.

No... this list is faxed to dealers from Lionel shipping.

I think Mike mentioned something about an actual INVENTORY list potentially being made available to consumers.  Would definitely be nice.  But honestly, I don't think we'll ever see it, 'cause inventory levels will give consumers too much information that they arguably don't NEED to know -- especially since Lionel is moving so much product primarily through dealers and distributors anyway (instead of direct to consumers).

Certainly would be handy info to have... But not something dealers would want consumers to know, since it could have pricing implications down the road.  Whereas the shipping list itself is rather harmless.
