i am so excited to get a new train this year i am counting to the days and the new train is my first engine with VSR - voice streaming and record which is really exciting for me

now dave said once in a livestream about VSR that you'll be able to upload MP3 files and play them through your engine

i have a bunch of songs/ audio files i'm itching to play through my dash 8

heck i could probably turn that train into the Cybertronian train i've been dreaming of since 2018 when i jumped head first into the Transformers like Optimus Prime or Ultra Magnus

you'll hear absolute mayhem coming out of that engine when run it with massive trains loaded with my hot wheels and small action figures

i just hope those tiny motors hold up until i can get a lionchief 2-8-0

has anyone tried VSR yet with MP3 files or at all?

My honest concern-  you really need to have a tablet or phone with the 5.0 or higher Bluetooth chipset. This means you do have to use a more recent phone or tablet. Second, ideally, it might need to be an iPhone or iPad- because some Android based phones and tablets- the Android operating system or settings/ limitations may not allow this feature to work correctly.

We put quite a bit of work into getting this feature into our LC engines. What we found is that performance is very closely tied to the (edit-3rd party tablet or phone) device being used. Especially on the Android side.

Let me elaborate. We ran into an issue with many Samsung phones. The Bluetooth streaming for voice requires we (the APP) set a specific baud rate. On many Android phones (namely Samsung made in the last 3 years), the baud rate cannot be set by the APP. Rather it is artificially throttled by the smart device.

This applies to many other Android phones as well, especially tracphones and other more bargain priced phones. You also have to make sure the device you're using has Bluetooth 5.0; older phones and even some newer lower-priced devices still use Bluetooth 4.0, which is not meant for voice streaming.

We have found that iOS devices operate the feature very well, especially if they're from 2019 and newer. If you are experiencing an issue with the feature on an iOS device, I would recommend emailing me and we can get to the bottom of it.
