Curious, if anyone had purchased the recently released Lionel Halloween  Eerie woodside passenger cars with the ghost silhouettes? If so, what are your thoughts? They’re pretty pricey…just looking for feedback before I put a dent in the train budget.

They are a great match for the Vision Halloween Triplex from a color and glow-in-the-dark standpoint. These are my first wood coaches, so I don't have a lot to say about the overall fit, finish and appearance. I do think the LED lights are too bright and the color temperature is too "cold". It would have been really cool if they were red or even RGB so we could have picked the interior lighting color. The transoms have green glowing sections too. The ghosts in the windows are nice, but again, I wish there were more or in addition, there were some real passengers. I will probably add some figures.

I do not see the flickering effect, which is supposed to be a feature, so I'll need to contact Lionel to see why the cars are not working correctly. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and can't wait to get the caboose to complete the set.

Thanks for the thorough review…I agree the lights do seem really bright  ..a more gloomy interior would work best with those ghostly passengers….beautiful cars.. thanks again!

True, but it also says this in the description:

"While we normally tout our "flicker?free" LED lighting, we've added some appropriate flicker and even a glow-in-thedark finish to these cars to make them come "alive" in the dark!"

Also listed in Charles Ro ad.

I have them and the Halloween Triplex. While flickering would be an appropriate effect, they do not flicker and the catalog lists them as flicker free LED, which is standard for their passenger cars. The cata log says they flicker and that they are flicker free. So there is a conflict. Charles Ro is I beleive an error. You can ask them. I got mine from Charles Ro and they don't flicker. The cars were a little dissappointing in that the lights were very white and brite, not spooky. A better choice would have been a purple, red, orange or green LED. Or even better, the Halloeen Trolley effect of constantly changing Halloween LED lighting. The ghost silhouettes are sparce and lose their effect against the brite lights. Hollowgraphic spectors would have been even better.

Hey Dave. I have a couple 50 watt UV LED panels close to the track and run the train by them slowly to charge up the glow-in-the-dark effect. The effect looks a lot better in the photo than it does in person. It's not nearly as dramatic. Also, the panels get very hot. I think I'd start a fire if I left them on for too long. Take a photo of yours and see if you experience the same.

Wonder how hard it would be to replace the white interior LEDs with a different color or RGB LEDs that allow me to change the color.

Yes, my flashlight warned not to leave it on too long. Otherwise it would get very hot and shorten the bulb life. I don’t know about replacing the bulbs in the cars but it’s worth looking into.
