I just received my brand new Lionel Legacy Western Pacific F-3 A-B, 6-38707, engine set from Charlie Ro today. I unpacked both lubed the powered unit and applied oil to the axles of both, assigned the engine ID # and was ready to roll. I run TMCC not Legacy in case this issue is unique to operating this engine in TMCC mode.

When I start-up the engine everything appears to be working until I turn the red knob to get the engine moving. Regardless of how much juice I send to the engine the motor races but it barely moves. It moves almost a negligible distance before I give up and shut off the power. It does not respond to the normal TMCC shutdown commands aux 1, 6, then 5.

I have several other Lionel TMCC and Legacy diesels and I have never encountered this problem with any of them.

I'll call Charlie and Lionel tomorrow to see what my next step will be.

Has anyone encountered this problem with one of the newer Legacy F-3's?

email in profile.

Thanks in advance for any help you can share.

When you say the "motor races" do you mean the wheels are spinning or the electric motor races, or is it RPM sound effects?

I had this same issue, on a Legacy layout running TMCC.

First off, I find that whether it is Low. Med. or Heavy momentum, that I can set on my Legacy handheld I have to wait even in default for the train to gain RPMS and then move out.

Luckily on the Legacy hand held you can view this.

How much time passed before it moves?

Give it at least a minute or 2, as I am not familiar with the TMCC hand held.

Now, one of my SP TMCC diesels had one truck that would bind after 13 revolutions, about 2 track lengths, then stop and the motor and wheels would race on the unbound truck, because the bound truck was anchoring it.

To check for a bind, you have to remove the shell and then turn the top of the motor and count how many revolutions it turns on each truck before binding, if it is binding at all.
