In general I would say yes.

I do own a ZW-L and I've noticed that I can make my newer Legacy engines run very slow very reliably with the L.  Not as slow as with the Legacy remote, but still a very nice slow pace.

On the flip side - When I run my Hogwarts express conventional R-T-R set engine, it doesn't seem to have much better slow running performance than with other transformers.

So my experience has been, engines that perform good in conventional perform even better with L.

I currently only have Lionel Engines so my experience is definitely limited.

Well yes, pretty much. I have one.  It runs recent (since 1990) Lionel locos, conventional, TMCC, Legacy or Vision, and PS2 and PS3 locos, all seen to run noticeably slower, smoother in conventional, that they will on  anything else I've used, including Z4000, etc.  It's not a monstrous, dramatic difference, but it is very noticeable and significant.

Postwar locos and WBB don't seem to do that much better but they run as well as on anything else I have ever used.  I've heard reports that some older units with Pullmor motors don't like the ZW-L buy all of mine run fine - not much or any better than on older style transformers, but no worse, either.

Thanks Lee, thats what I was wondering about locos such as Williams under conventional operation.
