I haven't actually seen it. I love older horror movies like "Friday the 13th", "The Fog", etc. My sons and I even attend a horror movie convention once or twice a year. However, that is a separate interest from my trains, and I don't ever see me mixing the two. I'm not really into the licensed cars anyway, but if I were to buy any, they would be something more cheerful than Jason Voorhees.

I think it makes sense for Lionel to continue to dip their toes into the Halloween stuff.  The holiday is growing every year and the modelling aspect is as well.  Look at how much stuff Department 56 and Lemax have now for their Halloween lines.  And I've noticed just on this forum that the number of Halloween layouts increase year after year.  I think they are great for kids.  But I think the smarter buy is the Area 51 or the new Zombie sets as those can be run more year-round.

I would never begrudge anything Lionel wants to build, as long as they build it well. I just know when I look at my trains, I want to see happy and/or Christmas. Horror movies for me are for a much different mood.

Like them or not, Zombies are very popular with younger folk at the moment.  Why not

try to get them into trains.  No different than Thomas for the little ones.

By itself, I don't know.  If they had cataloged it as part of a series with other horror franchise movies, like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play, Evil Dead, etc., I could see it as part of a themed series.

Of course, we have to remember that this is not aimed at the vast majority of us here on this forum.  I think they are aiming at the horror collector market.  If I were a dealer, and I had a lot of halloween/horror themed stock, I would set up one time at a horror convention just to see if I could drum up interest in a new market.

Oh yes.  How about a pair of flat cars with Goldfinger's Rolls and Bonds Aston Martin DB4 as loads.  I'd buy those in a hot second.

Fixed it for you.

Ah, so if people don't like something you like, then they are "old curmudgeons"?  Or is it just if someone doesn't care for one of Lionel's products?

I just find this car to be an odd choice for Lionel to be cataloged by itself.  It doesn't really fit with any of their Halloween offerings (I don't really equate slasher films with Halloween anyway).  If it were part of a series, like I mentioned above, I would buy it (and the rest) as I am a fan of all of those series, but I would only be interested in a series and not a solitary one-time offering.  I think it is great that Lionel is looking at other markets, I just wish I knew that this was part of something bigger and not just a stab in the dark...

Maybe they are "testing the water", and will run a series of horror movie cars if this one sells.

I don't have the slightest interest in any of these sort of products, and really don't get the interest some folks have.
But if there wasn't a market, Lionel wouldn't keep making the stuff.

To each their own

If I made a list of the things Lionel makes that don't interest me, this would be close to the top... but also on the list would be:

The Wizard of Oz, Peanuts, Christmas items, Halloween Items, that "artist of light" guy items, whatsherfacewhopaintsLionelpictures items, Norman Rockwell items, all scale locomotives and rolling stock, Pet Shop trains, Thomas, Harry Potter, the list could be endless...

And if Lionel listened to me, they'd be out of business.

Hey, maybe a Christine tie in with a Streets red 58 Plymouth?

Well, I am a bit surprised this car seems to have gotten pretty much a 100% thumbs down. I will admit that I do not care for horror movies (original Frankenstein, Dracula, etc. being the exceptions). So, modern horror themed cars are just not my thing. And, the price of this car scares me away more than the horror theme!

However,

I must say that as I was flipping through the catalog, the Friday the 13th artwork caught my eye immediately! It is very well done. Several times I was pulled back in to look at the artwork again. Had it been priced in the $40 - $50 range, it may have been hard to resist.

I am sure someone out there is going to like this car

Remember, on February 8th the dead shall rise again!

That would have the potential to be a BIG seller, and they could do a whole series of character cars.  The only question would be whose car would sell better, Darryl or Michonne?

Andy

Put me down for a Governor and a Morgan car. Altho the Morgan would be announced in the 20XX catalog, the first prototype would be shown at York a couple years later and the first production models would hit the stores sporadically a few years after that, with a steady flow about 6 months later.  (Fans of the show will get this)

I have nothing against fans of this 30 some year old movie but it is not for me. I have some friends who would like it however.

I would buy buy some Star Wars Cars and sets if those were ever made.

Silver Lake,

Your reply got me thinking.  According to the Star Wars Wiki, an X-wing fighter is 12.5m or 41.25 ft long.  Perfect fit on a 50 ft flat car.  Stack the wings and engine pods on a second flat and that's a REALLY interesting idea for a project.  Now to find a small scale toy or model of the X-wing.

Edit:  Finemolds from Japan sells a 1/48 scale X-wing.  Too bad it's almost $100 on Amazon.  Oh well.
