Most of the low end sets now come with the Trainschief Remote system. The catalog seems pretty good for the starter sets.
Pat
Thanks for posting.
I like the looks of that TrainChief remote. I wonder whih sets will have it?

I like the look of the remote too.
Wonder how many will buy the NY Yankees set?

Thanks, Pat. I was hoping the BNSF maxi-stack set would include that remote. Hey Lionel.....how 'bout out some Phillies subway cars?!
Rick
Thanks for the early view Pat! Much appreciated. Terry
There are some really nice sets here.
Thanks for posting the images.

I'm not a Lionel buyer, and a die-hard MTH fan and supporter but those RTR sets are SHARP! That SP Black Widow set, and the CP Grain Train in particular really catch my eye! If I was a conventional operator, I'd grab those right up! Thanks for posting Pat!

Many thanks Pat, looks like some great sets! Let us know when we can preorder.
I can see the Yankee train but a Red Sox train?, who would be that stupid!... and does it come with a beer car?
Two things caught my eye right from the get-go:
1. The Pennsylvania Flyer set now has a proper round number plate on the smoke-box door. The painted PRR Keystone on the last versionwas too much for me, but this is a candidate now for a ERRCo TMCC/Cruise upgrade.
2. The Pennsylvania "General" type set is SHARP!

Question about that new TrainChief remote, can the sets be run with just a conventional transformer (no remote) ? Last years remote Thomas set can use any power supply but it has to use the remote in order to run.
I like the look of the remote too.

Yankees set? I see is as a Mets set! And yes, I'll be buying it.
What looks like the return of the little Docksider in the Gingerbread set is welcome. Hopefully that means this engine may be coming out of retirement, I know lots of folks have missed it.
I find it interesting that there are 4 new Presidents cars and they still say Made In USA. Hopefully this means Lionel has already found a new US company to try to continue this trend for the boxcars.
I'm not unpleased to see the Yankees/Mets cars and the Yankees Steam set, but doubt I'd order both.

I also am not a traditional guy... But I have to say, those are some great sets!
Looks like Lionel is Roaring Again!
Was afraid of this. Seems like a step backwards in that you cant run the engines with just a regular transformer (no remote). What would it take to have a simple switch on the engine that would allow for conventional operation ?
In the Black Widow set the Pacific Fruit Express Reefer is a #6672 style car. The first time that scheme is on that exact style of reefer.

Love the MLB set idea.
Looking forward to a Phillies set!
And then when the Mets set goes on blowout due to lack of sales, I'll buy one to "accidentally" run off the edge of my layout.
I would hope it would be a separate Yankees and Mets sets. With 2 of each cars it will be a tough sell since most Mets fans(like my wife) are just Yankee haters.

Good to see the AREA 51 series return. Hope they do a Flying Saucer accessory in the next catalog.

Go Phil's! Mike Schmidt is down in the spring training camp as a batting coach, we need some Philadelphia subway cars Jerry.

Like "ed h" above, don't want any planned obsolescence built in where you can't run
the trains in conventional mode...THAT would put the brakes on buying new locos in
a hurry. There are enough compatibility problems already.
A Chicago Cubs train! Will it even run???

Yes this very interesting that very are announcing these new cars, since they announced that they are going to make another run of 2012 holiday box car but made in China.

There is a change to the text though. It now just reads as fully assembled in the USA, not fully manufactured and assembled in the USA. So I expect that some parts have been made abroad.
Could somebody get a better and bigger pics of the new transformers..I like the pistol grip/R/C car/ boat style controller!!! whats the price on the baby!!! Would like to get it if the price isnt to steep! Hey I race Gas & nitro Boats..That controller would be up my ally !!

The new type of controller "TrainChief" is like the one first offered with the new Thomas the Tank engine that was in the Lionel Christmas 2012 catalog. The transformer in that set is a 18 volt power supply like one used to charge your phone, razor or some printers. The sets with the TrainChief controller can operate with a regular transformer but you will still need the controller to operate the engine.
The pistol grip controllers ones that are shown on the bottom are for G gauge trains.
I do not know what the prices are for the new sets, but the newer Thomas sets last year were like $70 cheaper then the regular Thomas set.
train-station.com already has the 2013 RTR items listed on their site with pricing.
