Technically-minded folks of the forums,

First the set up. I have a LionMaster Big Boy #4006 and soon (hopefully) a LionMaster Big Boy #4011 both of which are having the same "issue". I set up a simple O-60 circle to verify that this issue isn't being caused by my normal layout. I have cleaned the tracks to make sure that all contact points are as clean as they can be for continuity.

Now the issue. With everything powered down, I place the engine and tender on the track, turn on the 180-watt power supply and give the track 18-volts. At that point all of the lights light up on the engine and tender and you can hear a click followed by a hum coming from the tender and thus, presumably, the speaker. If you then use the Cab-2 remote to tell the engine to move, even if it's not enough power to actually make the engine move, the humming stops and will only return when the engine is not given any input from the remote. "Shutting down" the engine does not appear to do anything (light stay on, hum stays). Otherwise, the everything functions perfectly.

So, is this just a quirk of the LionMaster series or do I have a bad audio/power board?

Thanks again for the input, everyone. I tried turning down the volume and the sound does decrease with volume. Regardless of the reason for it, I'll just turn it down and live with a slightly less loud train. Given my limited space, I'm really hoping they decide to revisit the LionMaster series and bring in some cleaner sounds. Until then, I know that the #4006 ran on RS v.4.

Does anyone have a #4011 that can comment on if it has the same sound quirk running RS v6?

It seems normal to me.  You have the master volume turned all the way up which means you are going to hear the "noise" or hum of the amplifier trying to amplify a week or non-existent source.  Notice when you have the locomotive addressed and the sounds start, you hear the amplifier doing a better job on the input source level, and less noise / distortion while amplifying the steam sounds although there us some because it sounds like you are at full volume.

Bring the volume down 1/4 turn on the pot, so that is not all the way up causing maximum distortion even when the sounds are on or a loud hum when they are off
