I got a good deal on this locomotive and was putting it through its paces tonight (I run conventional with Z1000 transformers).  Everything indicates this has Odyssey  but I can't find the switch indicated in the instruction manual and on the Lionel web page to be sure it is on.  My other legacy engines do fine for low speed control,  this has jack rabbit starting.   Am I missing something?  Thanks for any suggestions

You can do a search on the Forum as to why it runs like this. Both the Class A and the 0-8-0's don't have what I would call Legacy control. They use a board that uses Back EMF to provide the cruise. Your engine has fast starts. Imagine how bad this is in a switcher. When I ordered mine as BTO. I thought I was purchasing the ultimate switcher even with the hefty price tag. I ended up with an engine with maybe 5 usable speed steps out of 200. I have to run it with a DCS remote. The spinning wheel is just to hard to do switching moves. At least you got a good deal. I didn't.

, I will search the forum. Odyssey must have multiple versions?

No. This was and intentional change in speed control by Lionel.

It was mentioned the "full legacy" electronics wouldn't fit. However the 0-8-0s were already offered with full legacy 200 speed steps several years ago.

Some suspect it was possibly some type of cost cutting measure by Lionel.

Either way most agree Lionel dropped the ball on these

The TMCC versions of these Lionmaster class A's are actually much better performers.
