I received the first package of LionScale C&O hoppers yesterday. They seem on par with Weaver, although I think the bodies sit a little lower on these LionScale trucks. I'll also make the observation that perhaps the Weaver pad printing yielded slightly crisper graphics. All and all, they will look great behind my Allegheny.

Clem, I didn't even look for them. I will check tonight.
Nice CHARLIE. Did they come with the loads or did you make them? Enjoy!
Looking good - do they have die cast trucks?

Laz, Loads not included. The load was made by Don Kane.
They do seem to sit lower then a Weaver truck. I think Lionel designed the trucks to work under the Weaver car body but also work with their freight cars, I think. They are Die Cast. That will be nice because it will add weight to the car body. I have a 6 pack of the Klemme Coop PS-2CD hoppers coming. I am hoping down the road they will eventually issue all of the Weaver tooling.....Paul

That is what I thought. I got some from him at YORK. They are nice. DON does great work.
The cars look great. Especially with the coal load. I like that.
How well does the car track and how nice is that paint?
LOWER is GREAT! Weaver cars on 3 rail trucks were high sitting as they were designed more for 2 railers. So the fact Lionel got them lower and die cast truck means I may like them BETTER than the original. Thx

Thank you Charlie
I'm pleased with my 6-pack of these same C&O hoppers, too. Been meaning to upload a video of them plus some MTH 2-bay hoppers behind my Allegheny for the past 2 days.... Looking to upgrade to Kadees some day, too, but still need to order coal loads for them, as well as some Weaver 2-bay hoppers.
Charlie did Lionel change the body? How do they compare with the Weaver car?
The hoppers look great. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the others to arrive. Does anyone have an ETA on the other LionScale hoppers?
Jim,
To me the body is the same. All I see different are the trucks.

It's the Weaver mold just now owned by Lionel. Trucks are different and that's not a bad thing.
Yes I know it's the Weaver mold but Lionel could have modified it.
Here's the video mentioned above. If you don't want to watch the startup stuff, skip ahead to about 1:30 or 1:45ish.
Even with all 6 cars & 4 MTH 2-bay hoppers, and an MTH caboose, the Allegheny still pushed the train back a bit w/out the coupler engaging. These cars are light, and could maybe use a little extra weight in the bottom - or at least a coal load. Still, very happy with my purchase & can't wait for the next 6 cars.
We have the answer for anyone wanting to add additional weight for these cars:

These weights were made for the Weaver hopper car so if Lionel made no modification to the bottom they should fit perfectly!
Is Lionel going to sell that truck by itself so I can retofit my Weavers?
