i shot this video recently while working in Farmingdale, NY.
New York and Atlantic no. 156 and 301 heading westbound with freight cars.

Nice to see some freight action on the LIRR
Nice video- I used to live about 5 minutes from that crossing.
The NY&A has built a very successful freight business here on LI. The move mostly bulk commodities on to the Island (sand/ gravel) building materials, paper etc, and take landfill material municipal waste back to the west. The connect with several other Class 2's including the NY Harbor RY in Brooklyn, cars come and go via float barges to New Jersey.
